Black was not in the first standard but around 14 black dogs show up in the first registry and a big mess happen.then later they put them, They where recognized as dogs of black color in the first registry of the breed in April 1989. From this dogs is not a official book of where they came from because was never any litter in the RSCE. Due to some issues that the black color was bringing to the breed and the fact that they thought the black dogs weren't bringing anything positive or good to the breed and they weren't showing at any dog event. They thought the black hair was to bright and with a extremely short hair almost with a metallic shining not desirable!! Also comments where that the dogs that produce black reassemble a lot the Great Dane. Other problem was the dogs produce by black where totally incoherent , the body could be black and the legs brindle a mix of color that was not admitted. another problem when black was use was establishing color accepted they also produce black and tan like the shepherds. So the mix of color that where created by the introduction of the black was a total mess. After studys they also got to the conclusion the the black would bring more skin and health problems is why they decide to keep the different shape of fawn-tan and brindles to avoid this problem and set type!!So they try to make the type 100% with a equal look by establishing this colors.since tey were the most typical of the breed. Also is another story that is totally false about some people saying that the Majorero have black!!! The tru Majorero have only two color the brindle and the melado is like a dark tawny the black come from inserting other breeds with black to the breed!! i have this info from old storys in some info from tenerife given to me by Ricardo plus what i heard through the years also theres some in Betancourt book but not as good as the one i have in simple papers that go back to 30 years ago.
